Udall
Seeks Applications for 2004 Summer Intern Program in
Washington New
Mexico college students interested in a summer internship
in the Washington office of U.S. Representative Tom Udall
are invited to apply for a position by March 1. Each
year, a number of New Mexico college students are
selected to work in Udalls Capitol Hill office
during the summer. My
internship program offers students interested in public
service a wonderful opportunity to learn about federal
representation, Udall said. Interns are able
to participate in a variety of activities. I encourage
students from a variety of backgrounds and interests to
apply. To
apply for an internship, candidates must send a cover
letter and resume to: Pablo.Duran@mail.house.gov or
fax the materials to 202-226-1331. Interviews
and selections will take place during the month of March
and notifications made by March 15. Udall
serves on the Resources, Veterans Affairs, and Small
Business Committees. He is also a member of the
Democratic Education Task Force. Breaking
News: Human Life May Be Although
the U.S. banned beef imports and frowned upon the UK when
Mad Cow Disease related CJD began to take the lives of
British citizens, recently revealed documents show little
has been done to protect U.S. consumers from similar
outbreaks within our own borders. In fact, internal USDA
papers dating back to 1991 show that the U.S. government
(and related lobbyists) have been basing food safety
related decisions on corporate profit margins over human
health. Specifically, the USDA refused precautionary
measures that would mitigate the possible outbreak of Mad
Cow Disease, stating that the cost to the livestock
and rendering industries would be substantial. This
assessment may be true, depending on what the price of
human life is. Indeed, the cost of testing all cattle for
this fatal disease would add 3 to 5 pennies per pound to
the price of beef. Reference: Rampton, S and J. Stauber. Mad Cow USA Common Courage Press; http://prwatch.org/books/madcow.html
Recognising & unfolding latent gifts**Innésence School in Pojoaque Phone: (505) 455 0004 Movie-Making in New Mexico Winter Rain, Now Tell Me WhyBy Ron Ramsey Run me out in the cold rain and snow. --Grateful Dead Pray for snow. These words echoed through the movie making halls of New Mexico. Winter is here, and winter movies are coming. But this solstice season has been unseasonably warm, and sunny. Today it was a fine winter day, gray clouds, snow blanketing a perfect world. It could melt at any moment. Life is change. Winter Roses starring homies Gene Hackman and Shirley MacLaine, is scheduled to start shooting February 23rd. They are already hiring crew. To be filmed mainly in Santa Fe, it tells the tale of a family trapped in an empty hotel in a snowstorm. Of course, if snow prayers are not answered, Hollywood can fix it. They have ways. After all, you didnt think Armageddon was filmed on an asteroid, did you? Also possibly scheduled for some unknown upcoming point in time is Winter Angels, a moderate budget Western. The movie will star somebody. Any other information on this project is a secret. We do know this for sure: in westerns, people live hard, and die hard. In the words of Sir Paul McCartney, I can say no more. Except pray for snow. This is the Age of Secrecy. Getting any information about upcoming movie projects is harder than getting the Bush Administration to come clean about 9/11. Folks get cagey, especially when it comes to money. Secrecy is the order of the day, at least until contracts are signed. For an inveterate gossip and rumor monger, this is like being in Hell. What the heck, guys, spill the beans. The Universe is 15 billion years old, ultimately it wont matter. Rumors, those I got. 8 shows are looking to film here in March. Thats a lot. Maybe too many. The producers are going to decide who gets to come to NM in a one hand poker game. Thats not true, I made it up. Im going to reveal a secret. I have two highly placed sources for my NM movie insider info. Call them Colonel X and General Y. One is a Fire sign, the other a Water sign. A classic show and tell combo. One shows everything, tells nothing. The other tells everything, shows nothing. They provide the perfect balance. This is the secret of investigative journalism. Reveal this no one. When

By the time you read this, the NM State Legislature will have been in session for a week or two. On the agenda, in addition to getting tougher on DUIs, are more incentive bills for bringing movie work and money to the state. One bill will help movie workers to sue for back wages if a producer blows town. Others will create rebates to help fund post-production houses in NM. As it stands now, most movies do pre-production in LA, shoot in NM, then post-production back in LA. There are now some fledgling post-production houses in NM. Post-production includes adding music, effects, looping-in missing dialogue, stuff like that. Hey, we can do that here. Factoid: The NM State Symphony has the lowest rates in the country. You want music for your movie, call them! Bumper sticker seen in Roundhouse parking lot: Practice Random Kickbacks And Senseless Acts of Bribery. Kidding. Go to the NM State Government web site for a closer look at these latest film incentive bills. While away a few hours. The Secret Dreams of WritersWriters have dreams, hopes, and fantasies. To craft a line that perfectly describes a sunset. To tell a story that makes children laugh. To create a tale that touches the heart, inspires the spirit. To make a pot of money in Hollywood. If you are a writer, you can achieve all those dreams. Keep an eye out for Project Green Chili. Green Chili was inspired by the HBO Project Greenlight, which gave unknown screenwriters a chance to get their scripts read and made into a movie. Project Green Chili will be a contest for writers. The sponsors want a half hour sitcom type script, for a pilot show. For a to-be-shot-live soap-opera-four-camera type set. To take place in NM. The pilot will be made locally, funded by State money. The dream would be an ongoing TV series. Some wag suggested it will be Friends in New Mexico. All this could change at any time. I will pass on any information as I get it. Right now I dont know where, when, who or what. I know why. Stay tuned. Possible scenarios for Green Chili scripts: The Governor is actually a surviving Roswell Alien. Or New Mexico is really a chunk of a distant planet, fallen to Earth a billion years ago. Or all New Mexicans are reincarnated Atlanteans. One suggestion: keep the fart jokes subtle. Another suggestion: Dont use the title Red or Green? In union news, Matthew Halbert has been elected president of Local 480. Unlike some presidents, Matthew actually got a majority of the votes. His original reform mandate was to clean up union corruption. Kidding. The union hasnt been corrupt since Al Capone died. The plan to work a deal with Halliburton and begin shooting movies in Iraq was voted down. I made that part up. Congratulations, President Halbert.
