Anniversary Truthstocks and General Strike: New York, San Francisco
and Worldwide.
Below please find information on all three events with contact information and ways to get involved. 9/11 Ground Zero Truthstock We Are Change, Info Wars, Freedom to Fascism, Lone Lantern, and Louder Than Words, are sponsoring a 5-Day-Non-Profit-Fundraising-Event commencing on September 7th and concluding on September 11th, 2007 in New York City to raise awareness and money for 9/11 Responders who are dying due to the inhalation of contaminated air filled with thousands of tons of asbestos, lead, chromium, benzene, PCBs, dioxins, highly caustic cement dust and hundreds of other dangerous substances on September 11th, 2001 and throughout the many months of the “clean-up and recovery” at Ground Zero, when the FDA openly reported on September 12th that “The air is safe to breathe. Go back to work.” Today, tens of thousands of 9/11 Responders are in dire need of medical care due to the environmental conditions after the World Trade Center Towers I & II and Building #7 imploded at Ground Zero. Diagnosed with cancers and debilitating respiratory illnesses, these true American Heroes have been denied their financial benefits required to save their lives. While suffering and deteriorating, their health crisis has been ignored by State and Federal policy. Many have already died. We Are Change, Info Wars, Freedom to Fascism, Lone Lantern, and Louder Than Words, are committed to raising $100,000.00 for 9/11 First Responders by ticket admission alone. At $20 per ticket, per day, admission to the 8-hour event will feature Speakers nationwide, Round Table Discussions, Concerts and Celebrity Appearances. *. Composed of family members, friends and fellow Americans of loved ones who perished on that fateful day, We Are Change are determined to put a face to the thousands of forgotten victims of the 9/11 attacks 6 years later. *All proceeds will go directly to 9/11 First Responders, We Are Change, Exchange & Trust, and The John Feal Good Foundation. www.FealGoodFoundation.com. On Saturday, September 8th, Musician and Filmmaker, Michael Franti with Guerrilla Management present the 9th Annual 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park. PTTP also features morning yoga, an open-air art gallery, a healing arts tent, a DJ tent, vendors and food booths, eco village, kid’s zone, bicycle coalition, and social, environmental & political organizations tabling & forums. The Festival began humbly in 1998 as an international day of art and culture in support of political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal. The name and date “911” were chosen to call attention to the emergency status of Mumia’s impending execution and drew roughly 6,000 people to the Mission’s Dolores Park. In 2000, PTTP expanded; showing support for all prisoners on death row, and speaking out against the exponential growth of the prison industrial complex. When the attacks of September 11th, 2001 occurred, the festival took on a new significance, serving both as a day of remembrance for the lives lost in the tragedy as well as a day in which Northern Californians called for and end to all bombing around the globe. The 2002 and 2003 events offered a space for healing and compassion for all the people killed or displaced by terrorism and the war on terrorism. By this time, the festival had outgrown Dolores Park, and was resituated in the lush mile acre of Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park, with over 20,000 people attending. In 2004 the festival was themed “Stand up and be Counted”, encouraging people to get out and vote. Last year’s festival, themed “Bring ‘Em Home” emphasized that the best way to support our troops is to bring them home now and drew upwards of 50,000 attendees participating in a day of music, art and social justice. PTTP Festival has been graced with inspirational performances by Michael Franti and Spearhead, KRS-One, String Cheese Incident, Saul Williams, Keller Williams, Blackalicious, Alice Walker, Ram Dass, Talib Kweli, Amy Goodman, The Coup, Digital Underground, Woody Harrelson, Lyrics Born, Anti-Flag, Jello Biafra and Angela Davis and many others. 911 General Strike The 911 General Strike called by a coalition of antiwar, 911 Truth, and pro-impeachment groups is gaining strength with gatherings scheduled across the country and rapidly expanding activity on the Internet, where the idea originated. We see this action as one against the injustices listed on the site but also one against our own fear, apathy, and cynicism. We want this to be an opportunity for citizens to reclaim a sense of power in defining their own destiny and running our own government. http://www.strike911.org/ Strike activities are growing by the day. Formal events are listed below but there’s more. Every citizen is empowered by this essentially leaderless, egoless movement. This is one case where the people will actually lead if they choose. The impact of major public participation would shock those in power who ignore what they see as a passive public. We recommend that everyone become an organizer for this strike. Try to link up with people in your area, have meetings, network, discuss over the internet, and plan your own creative actions for the 11th. People can help out the strike by just continuing to organize, communicate, and spread the word. The 911 General Strike takes delivering the message to a whole new level. Apparently the message sent by the 2006 elections got lost in the spam folder. Citizen reminder messages, tens of millions of them, from the public in person, by mail, email, phone, etc., weren’t enough. The general strike gives citizens a chance to show those in power it’s time to listen through “a day of personal reflection and nonviolent dissent in recognition of the course we have been on since 9/11.” The simple action plan includes – no school, no work, no buying anything (at all), and hit the streets. A White House run by the war lobby and an a * Failure to end the Iraq war * Failure to conduct a no-holds-barred 911 investigation * Inaction on impeachment hearings * Elections that become less believable and meaningful with each cycle * Inaction on health care for those in need * The willful, deliberate dismantling of the Constitution The list goes on. Citizens are barely acknowledged, rarely heard. These views are reflected in public opinion polls showing Bush approval consistently at or below 30% with disapproval above 60%. Only 27% of the public thinks the country is headed in the right direction, while 68% see the country headed in the wrong direction. PollingReport.Com 8/26/07. The wrong direction figure has been above 60% every month since September 11.2005. The debate is over. The bipartisan war party lost. The General Strike of 9/11/2007 is the first of a series of events planned for September. It began in mid summer as a new, first time coalition effort by activists from different groups with a shared agenda, positive change. Reliance on the Internet and the unknowns between now and 9/11 make it difficult to say how widespread participation will be. But the pattern is set. Like the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland, this peaceful general strike will show what rank and file movement members and committed citizens can do when they demand action Permission to copy and distribute with a link to the original article in “Scoop” and attribution of authorship.
